The Ecological Foundation Tiuti Wally has carried out several small projects in the year 2008. We describe the projects more in detail.

1. - Pisciculture project (tilapia-nursery)
Financed by the Council of the Pastaza Province (department sustainable projects). This project started in March 2007 and is still going on with the assistance of the Council of the Pastaza Province. At presence there are 3000 big reproductive tilapias and many small fishes in 5 fish-ponds. They are mentioned to be for the reproduction by amplifying the project. Every 6 months there is a qualification to the persons of the project by the visits of the technical engineers of the Council of the Pastaza Province. The qualification is to learn how the people of the Ecological Foundation Tiuti Wally can select the male and female fishes. In the year 2009 there will be amplified 5 more fish-ponds in the project. The aims of this project is first to improve the daily alimentation of the families of the foundation and after that the rest of the inhabitants of Sarayaku. Half way of the year 2009 they will be able to eat the fishes already. Besides the people of the foundation can sell the big tilapias and the small fishes to the people of the community of Sarayaku to let them reproduce. In this way it will also give the people of the foundation an income. We are waiting on the reproducing male tilapias to get a good quality of fishes. These male fishes will be amplified at the end of February. There has been some delay for the maintenance of the runway for the sports planes in Sarayaku.

2. - Shop with handicrafts in Baños, Ecuador
The aims of the shop with handicrafts are to finance (part of it) our projects. All the handicrafts are bought of the women of the foundation. In this way they get an income. Bracelets with iron, ceramics, necklaces and beads of seeds are sold most in the year 2008. Any benefits we did not make for the big shop investments by opening it. The shop has been opened by private donations from Holland, the end of June 2008. Volunteers sell the jewelry in Holland on trade markets. We hope to make more benefits in the year 2009 and that we can export more jewelry.

3. - Education project (purchase of school articles)
This project has been financed by the foundation Cucu from Holland with the amount of 780,50 dollars. The school articles are already handed over to the 12 children of the foundation and 10 children outside the foundation. The daypacks are of an excellent quality so that they can last a long time. The project has been financed in the month August 2008.

4. - River transport project (purchase of an outboard motor)
This project has been financed by the foundation MIVA from Holland with the amount of 3.984,00 dollars. The members of the foundation of the project - as compensation - have built a canoe of cedar wood with a capacity for 10 persons. The canoe is 11 metres long and 95 centimetres wide. The turbo motor is of the trade mark Yamaha with 40 HP short legs. The project helps to give a better exclusive service of the river transport and there will be three shifts weekly on the route Sarayaku - Canelos - Sarayaku. Materials can be transported for example by finishing the construction of the health centre of the Ecological Foundation Tiuti Wally without renting a canoe with high costs. Besides the volunteers, the members of the foundation, ill persons and people of the community can be transported. The project has been financed in the month December 2008.

5. - Health project (construction of a health centre)
This project has been financed by the foundation Share4more, Rabobank, Henk van Ballegooij, Wilma Leenheer and Eline Timmerman from Holland with an amount of 9.326,71 dollars. The project is specifically meant for the construction of a small health centre. The health centre has a size of 10 by 8 metres and has a construction of cement and wood. The roof will be made of ecological tiles. An expensive, but very sustainable construction. The construction started in September 2008 and will go on in the year 2009. We are still looking for more financial support by finishing the construction and by buying medicine and health equipment. The health centre has 4 divisions: a room for medicine, a room for ill persons, a room for dentistry and a waiting room. The project has been financed in the month August 2008.

6. - House for volunteers and visitors
This house has built for accommodation for foreigners and national visitors. Besides it will be accommodation for the volunteers of the Ecological Foundation Tiuti Wally. The project has been financed by private donations from Holland with the amount of 829,72 dollars. The simple house - made of wood - for volunteers and visitors has at presence one room with 3 beds. There are still missing 2 rooms with 13 beds, a dining room, a kitchen with utensils and sanitary supplies such as showers, toilets, washbasins and etcetera. We are still looking for more financial support to finish the house with interior.
