Conservation of the biodiversity, environmental education and development of sustainable ecotourism

The Ecological Foundation Tiuti Wally has got a program for volunteers who can work in the Mawka Llakta sector in the indigenous community of Sarayaku, province Pastaza, canton Puyo, at a distance of about 25 minutes by sports plane from the village Shell.

The foundation is located in the Mawka Llakta sector, community Sarayaku in the south east of Puyo. You can get there by sports plane or canoe.

The climate is tropical. The altitude is at 400 metres above sea-level. Temperatures are 250 C to 300C at daytime and 180C to 220C at night.

The program for the volunteers is based on the interests of the Ecological Foundation Tiuti Wally and the conservation of the biodiversity in the Amazon region, especially in the Mawka Llakta sector of the community of Sarayaku.

The Ecological Foundation Tiuti Wally needs volunteers with or without experience to realize different projected activities, like:

Reforestation of ornamental plants: orchids, bromeleas, etc.
Construction and repair of paths, trails, houses, etc.
Inventory of medical, exploitable and non-exploitable plants (biologists or students with experience) and reforestation (without special experience)
Inventory of the birds of the area (ornithologists or students with experience)
Inventory of the insects, frogs, snakes, etc
Inventory of the animals of the region with the names in Quechua, Spanish, English and their scientific names
English lessons in the high school of Sarayaku or for interested members of the community (English teachers/ students or people with English as their native language)
English, German, Dutch classes in the Ecological Foundation Tiuti Wally, sector Mawka Llakta
Lectures regarding environmental aspects for interested members of the community (people with knowledge)
Development of an infrastructure, programs, promotion for the Ecotourism of the area (people with knowledge)
Development of projects for a sustainable Ecotourism (people with experience)

The period for volunteer work is from a minimum of 2 weeks up to a maximum of 1 year.

The volunteer will work together with people of the foundation.

Prerequisites and terms for volunteer work

Age: minimum 18 years
Interest to work in and for an indigenous community in the Amazonian jungle
At least a basic knowledge of Spanish
Health insurance
You will need a visa if you stay for more than 6 months
Vaccinations if necessary
Curriculum vitae with a description of your motivation for this volunteer work, photo, personal data such as: name, date of birth, address, telephone number, email address, etc.

Please inform us about any allergies or health problems or if a special diet is needed.

The volunteer has to cover all costs such as transport, health insurance, vaccination, visa, etc.

The costs for a voluntary service are at 10,00 USD per day and person and includes food, lodging and working equipment. Personal expenses are not included.

How to get to Sarayaku

By sports plane: air transport to Sarayaku
Shell - Sarayaku, five-seated sports plane 250 USD (three-seated 200 USD) without 12% tax. Note: 1, 2, or 3 (4 or 5) passengers pay 250 USD (three-seated 200 USD) for a sports plane with a total of 900 pounds (three-seated 700 pounds) included passengers and cargo (this is divided by the number of persons).

By sports plane: air transport from Sarayaku
Sarayaku - Shell, the fee is about 30 USD per passenger.

By canoe: river transport to Sarayaku
Puyo - Canelos, pick-up double cabin, capacity 6 persons, 40 USD (this is divided by the number of persons). Canelos - Sarayaku, motor canoe, capacity 2.000 pounds 100 USD. (this is divided by the number of persons in case of volunteers, with locals the amount will drop).

By canoe: river transport from Sarayaku
